One of the major challenges here was that none of the people working on the project had a lawn. We all had to become somewhat of a subject matter expert by doing research and speaking to consultants who were professionals in this field. We also conducted user interviews with users from all over the country to really understand how people were taking care of their lawns (where they buy tools, how they learn about lawn care, how big their lawns are, how they want their lawns to look like, etc.) and how skilled they were.
Using affinity mapping, we organized user pain points, needs, and synthesized our research into features for the lawn care tool. We also created personas that guided us through the design process.
